Night 8 - Sakyou

[In all the confusion, they didn't get to talk before the trial like she was hoping to.

But that's fine, she supposes - as a whole, the group been more or less on the same page during that trial... Though they really only figured out a small portion of what had happened the night before.

Rhys said some things that have got her wondering, though, so at some point between the execution and curfew, she'll catch up to Sakyou and grab his sleeve to get his attention.]

We weren't able to do it before, so let's talk now.

[Sakyou, who had been quiet for most of the trial ~~because where in the world was aki sandiego~~, stops obligingly once she pulls on his sleeve. He looks Tired, but they probably all do by now.]

Mm, he was quite correct in his assessment of the amount of derailment he caused... Very well, then.

I'm just going to get the obvious question out of the way. Rhys said he assumed Jacky told you things... did he?

[They can get on with their theorizing once they get this part over with.]

[Shaking his head! He knew this was coming because Rhys is a rude shit, god!!]

...In retrospect, I believe he may have been trying to hint at what Rhys said, but the one thing he told me was to trust Elizabeth no matter what. [He hadn't really understood it at the time but still accepted it because he trusted Jack because HE'S A DANG FOOL.]

I have every intention of doing so.

I'll agree with him on that much, at least.

[Alice has more or less thrown her lot in with apartment seven at this point, and Elizabeth, being an honorary member of that group, has her trust - as far as she'll trust anyone, anyway.]

If you were to pick just one person to trust in this place, you could do worse than her.

[GOOD WORK LIZ working into the good graces of the crazies.]

Ironic in a way, considering she's the only person who told me explicitly not to trust her. Or anyone here, but... I'd say that unless she's an incredible actress, she's not one of the staff.

I almost wish she was, because it would mean the staff members are feuding among themselves. It's always easier to take people down when they're divided.

[She shrugs.]

But you're probably right that she's not.

Rhys seems like a spiteful enough person to me that he would have found a way to reveal her if she was on the staff, anyway. Especially considering he seemed so ready to die.

[But instead they got the "won't even really try" Rhys... HE SEES YOU, RHYS!!]

He wouldn't even try. What a miserable little worm! If he couldn't say it, he should have just tried to discreetly write it in his own blood or something.

[SHE IS SO BUTTMAD THAT SHE DIDN'T GET TO SEE HIM DIE.]

Or carved it into his skin, since it looked like he was going to try and open a vein if we left him to his own devices.

Considering the effort he went through with everything else and the recklessness he'd exhibited up until then, I wonder if we could take that to mean that he held some sort of loyalty toward the other remaining scientists.

[Rhys also seemed to hate everyone but Jack though, SO.]

Maybe... he did seem to think that Judy would shock him if he tried to tell us anything about the others, though.

[She rolls her eyes.]

Which isn't an excuse. If he thought he was going to be dying anyway... I wonder if there's some kind of a difference between what happens to you if you die by being shocked as opposed to being killed some other way? He did seem to think there was something waiting for him after he died.

Or maybe it as just a front and he knew that the Overseer wasn't actually going to let me kill him all along.

I'd imagine it would be the former, if I had to guess... Rhys seems a little too - reactionary? To be entirely good at acting. The only reason we overlooked him for so long wasn't because he wasn't suspicious, after all.

[They just all thought he was too much of a weenie...]

I don't think it's that he wasn't suspicious... it was just that there were other people who were either more suspicious, or who distracted us.

[aDAM.]

Either way, what we need to do from here on is obvious. The rest of the staff members need to go, of course, and all the better if we can kill the Overseer. Ooh, I'd love to get my hands on them...

[ADAM... Sakyou makes a noise of agreement, sighing a little.]

I wonder who the Overseer is... If they have the kind of power that they showed during trial, they're going to be a larger threat than the staff members.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Overseer was one of those people who went missing.

[It's the extra vote that's making her so suspicious, though she won't get confirmation that there's somewhere else for people to vote behind a door they haven't unlocked yet.]

If they are hiding away somewhere that more people have to die before it's unlocked, that would be just like them. Of course, if we assume they're playing fair, the Overseer probably is still among us.

[But is anything about this fair?]

Things haven't been fair from the beginning here, and after this execution, I would say that "fair" is not a top priority.

[Of like, anyone here, honestly.]

Finding the Overseer would be ideal, though... I suppose Rhys is also still an option, considering he's still alive, unless Judy removes him from the voting registry as well, but I feel he should be saved for a "last resort" situation for now. We know that he's guilty. He isn't going anywhere any time soon, unless he makes more of a menace of himself tonight than he did last night.

I have dibs on Rhys!

[Alice points a finger at Sakyou, putting one hand on her hip.]

If we find him, I get to kill him. He was mine twice and he got away both times. I'm not letting it happen a third time.

[Wow, Alice!! Don't point at him menacingly!]

I have no intention of killing him before any of you who he's personally slighted.

That's fine, then.

[And just like that, she relaxes and picks up the conversation where they left off. As long as he doesn't get in her way, it's.. fine...]

If we can, I'd prefer to find the Overseer. That'd solve all our problems, and the person in charge is the one we really want to make suffer, right?

I'm certain some people would still want to see the staff suffer. After all, it sounds like most of them are the ones doing the actual dirty work here... But with the Overseer presumably living up to their name, there will likely be quite a line for them.

[Which Sakyou also won't get involved with because he's not about to fight about of bloodthirsty monkeys for the first dibs okay.]

I wouldn't be opposed to making the staff suffer, too, but if it's a choice between them and the Overseer...

[And it very well might end up that way - there's only so much time they'll have, if people keep dying at the rate they have been. Focusing too much energy on the regular staff members could come back to bite them.]

Only time will tell how it works out, huh?

Indeed...

[A SIGH. Tough shit, this whole catching killers thing... while everyone else is running around KILLING OTHER PEOPLE, ALICE.]

—Regardless, if you wished to speak about potential patterns of thought, I'm afraid I wasn't able to give that much of my attention today.

[Alice sighs.]

That's disappointing, but understandable.

[She wasn't able to give it a lot of her attention, either, and that's probably the only reason she's not getting mad at him.]

That idiot Rhys really made a mess of things, didn't he?

[The morons that forget to do shit together stand strongly together... Or something like that. Sakyou just sighs though, nodding a little.]

Well, he did say that it was his aim. Distracting everyone and keeping the trial from moving anywhere meaningful... It was a relatively clever ploy.

[He's pretty surprised it came from Rhys "mcbarfs all day" Rhysson.]

At least this time he probably won't be interrupting us.

["Probably" because he's not dEAD YET he could still show up. But if that happens he's a dead man, so maybe he won't.]
